McGill Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies (IGSF) Dear colleagues, students, friends,
I am very happy to announce that McGill has officially approved our proposal for the creation of the McGill Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies (IGSF). The Institute is a new interdisciplinary academic unit in the Faculty of Arts, comprising five research axes and two teaching programs (Women’s Studies, which includes the Graduate Option in Gender and Women’s Studies, and Sexual Diversity Studies). With the creation of this Institute, the McGill Centre for Research and Teaching on Women passes out of existence, but the IGSF will continue with feminist research as well as research in sexuality and gender studies. I would like to express my thanks to all of you who have worked toward or supported the creation of the IGSF.
We are planning a series of inaugural events for the next academic year, and the research axes are continuing to grow and develop. Please check our web-site <http://www.mcgill.ca/mcrtw > for up-dates and watch for our next newsletter. We look forward to strengthening and increasing our ties with other units at McGill, with other universities near and far, and with community groups who share common objectives. If you have any questions, or know anyone who might like to be added to our list, please contact me at: marguerite.deslauriers@mcgill.ca.
